Around the base of the tree;what is preferred mulch do I use? Thank you, Alfreda Richardson |
You can use any organic mulch around a tree. Pine bark or shredded hardwood bark are probably preferred, but you can also use partially finished compost, old rotted down autumn leaves, or a thin layer of herbicide-free grass clippings or a mixture of materials. Spread the mulch out over the entire root area. Place it in a flat layer about two inches thick. Fluff it with a rake to prevent weed growth and replenish it periodically. Do not allow it to touch the trunk or bark of the tree and never heap up at the center. |
