We just purchased a home in the foothills of the Rockies just west of Denver. The lawn is basically a forest turned to residential. There are soooooo many dandelions I cannot fathom trying to dig them out. There is not much grass, so we seeded with tall fescue last fall. What could you recommend for this situation and eliminating the dandelions? Thanks! P.Cox

Digging is usually the first option, although unless you remove the entire taproot, dandelions will simply grow back. Under the circumstances, you may want to use a broadleaf weed killer (such as 2,4-D). The best time to control dandelions is right now, when daytime temperatures reach 85F or higher.

Best wishes with your new home!
