The Q&A Archives: Tiny flee like bugs on my plants/big problem

Question: I have these very tiny little bugs that look like small flee's or something and they are eating my perenials, what should I use to get rid of them? I have there dogs and I am not big on too much pesticides?

Answer: Based on your description this sounds like a problem with flea beetles. Flea beetles are usually active for only about a month, they are also somewhat difficult to control. Whether or not to try to control them depends on how your plants seem to be doing. If your plants are growing well, they should outgrow the damage. If the damage is truly disfiguring or your plants are very young and small, you could treat them with carbaryl (Sevin). Read and carefully follow all of the label directions.
