I'd like to trim my barberry bushes just to make them look nicer. Will I lose all the color? Is this the wrong time to do this?

Spring is the best time to prune, but you can do it now. To lessen shock, don't remove more than one-third of the plant in any pruning session. The new foliage will be a lighter color at first, but will mature into a deep purple.
