The Q&A Archives: Barberry Bushes

Question: I'd like to trim my barberry bushes just to make them look nicer. Will I lose all the color? Is this the wrong time to do this?

Answer: Spring is the best time to prune, but you can do it now. To lessen shock, don't remove more than one-third of the plant in any pruning session. The new foliage will be a lighter color at first, but will mature into a deep purple.
