When I bought a tall tomato plant, the stem was bent after I got home. The top of the plant looks pathetic but there are new growth coming from the base of the stem. Should I cut the top part off to help it recover or will it shock the plant?

If the stem is broken or crushed and the foliage is wilting, go ahead and cut it off as it will not get any better. Hopefully the new growth will catch up soon.
