I purchased an absolutely magnificent tomato and was wondering if it's practical [or even possible] to salvage some seeds and grow my own ? I'm originally from the East Coast and fondly remember the beefsteaks we used to get from a small farm in the summer around Annapolis ... that's what I want, a really big, high-acid [but sweet] tomato with taste ! |
Saving tomato seeds is possible, but most will cross-pollinate so what you'll get might be quite different from the parent. It's risky, but might be worth a try. Or, you can purchase Beefsteak Tomato seeds from Burpee (online). Summers in Long Beach are not as hot, nor as long as summers on the east coast so you might want to try a short season beefsteak variety. There are lots of choices if you visit their website. Best wishes with your tomatoes! |
