We are planning our garden for the patio. What herbs, vegetables, edible, driable and cuttable flowers are good for sunny patio gardening?

You can grow lettuce and other greens in containers, and by starting them indoors now and placing them outside on your patio during warm days, you can get a spring/early summer crop of salad greens. Cucumbers and squash can be grown on trellises in largecontainers. You can grow strawberries in half barrels or strawberry pots. You can mix purple ruffle basil or red sails lettuce (both with purplish leaves) with pink annuals for a lovely display. These purple leaves are also striking when combined with green Bells of Ireland or chartreuse-flowered nicotiana. Creeping thyme can trail over the sides of a deep container planted with carrots. Nasturtiums can climb a trellis or cascade from a strawberry pot. Their flowers are edible as well.

Spend sometime perusing gardening books and magazines for other combination ideas. They are a feast for the eyes, not to mention the palate.
