| Hi, I purchased 2 Chippewa Blueberrie bushes about 3 weeks ago. I have followed the directions on the home depot card that was attatched to bushes to the t. After a week, the growing tips began to droop. As of today one of the plants is starting to brown with leaves falling off having berries that are all dried looking and the other one is close behind. I live a few miles from from Hamminton, NJ which is is the blueberry capital. I stopped and asked a farmer whome I saw out in the field yesterday who told me to add anything that is composting in in a state of decomposition. He told me the soil we have is exactly the same as what he has and told be get the soil to at make sure the the soil is 5.0 ph or a little lower. Are these plants guaranteed with the one year guarantee? I still have the containers they came in and the this one tag , but threw out the receipt. Please let me know if I can possibly save these or if I can bring them back tony |
| Based on your description I am not certain what is happening to your blueberries but it is possible they are suffering from being over or under watered. The soil should be evenly moist like a wrung out sponge, not sopping wet and not dried out. To know if you need to water, dig into the soil with your finger. If it is still damp, do not water yet. When you water, apply it slowly and thoroughly so it soaks down to the roots. You might try mulching with an organic mulch such as pine fines, this will help keep the soil more evenly moist and also help feed the soil as it breaks down slowly over time. The soil where they are planted should be organic and humusy, and have an acidic pH just as the farmer told you. Your local county extension should be able to help you with checking the soil.
