My boyfriend and I just moved into a new place together and I just planted new flowers outside the front door area and the weeds just keep coming up faster than I can pull them. I heard if I put garbage bags down, it will help the weeds. Does this really work?

A layer of paper topped with organic mulch would be better for the soil than plastic. Cut the weeds off short. Cover them using about five sheets of newspaper and overlap the edges to exclude light. Dampen the paper to make it easier to lay. Then top that with several inches of organic mulch. This should hold down most weeds. If some do pop up through that, spot treat with an herbicide containing glyphosate (read and carefully follow all label directions) or hand dig being sure to remove the root as well as the top growth. The paper and mulch will break down slowly over time to help feed the soil. The mulch also helps reduce the need for watering. I hope this helps!
