Sandy soil usually drains very quickly, but doesn't hold moisture or nutrients, things your flowers and veggies need to grow healthy and happy. Before you plant in the garden bed, spread 4-6 inches of organic matter over the top and dig or rototil itin. You can use compost, leaf mold, peat moss or aged manure. The organic matter will help hold moisture and will provide nutrients to the roots of your plants. If you do this year after year, your soil will become garden loam - the envy of green thumb gardeners everywhere! |
