I have a large, hilly back yard that is overrun with scrub oak. I've tried cutting it back and even pulling out its roots, but it keeps coming back. Is there anything effective to spray on the shrubs to kill them off?

You can use a vegetation killer such as Round-Up. Don't just spray the area, though, because it will kill everything it touches. Instead, cut the shrubs off and paint full strength Round-Up on the new cuts. The chemical will travel down to the roots and kill them, too.
