Cut off the spent blooms when they are done. Wait to prune the rose plant itself until February. Keep it growing by feeding it regularly with a soluble product such as Miracle Gro following label instructions. Also keep the soil moist but not soggy wet. This will help maintain good color and vigor. If leaf diseases appear a fungicide spray will be needed. Your Home Depot has several such sprays for rose disease prevention.
