The Q&A Archives: Is my tree dying?

Question: I have a tree that I think is a maple but I am not sure anyway it gets leaves in the spring they are very bright yellowgreen. But by the end of June or begaining of July the leaves start to turn brown starting at the inside of the leaf. What do you think would cause this?

Answer: Without knowing for sure what tree you're growing, it's difficult to diagnose the problem. If it is a maple, leaf scorch might be the problem, or verticillium wilt (a disease). Why not take a few of the leaves into your local Cooperative Extension office or well-staffed nursery and see if they can't positively diagnose the problem?

Best wishes with your tree!
