should blueberry bushes be pruned and if so, how often and how far back and what season? Thank you

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!

Blueberries are pruned in late winter. Starting in year 5 prune out 1/5 of the oldest canes or shoots emerging from the ground. Prune them all the way back to the ground. This gets the bush on a 5 year renewal cycle.
