Apples and pears are susceptible to several fungal diseases and generally need to be on a regular preventative spray schedule. Usually the spray schedule begins in the dormant stage and continues throughout the growing season:

Dormant stage, spray with:
Dormant oil
or
Lime sulfur
or
Liquid copper ? ? For apple only

During the flowering stage, use:
Pre-pink Captan3
or
Mancozeb
or
Ferbam *No spray needed for pear

Pink
Captan
or
Mancozeb
or
Ferbam
Petal fall Captan
or
Mancozeb
or
Ferbam

Apply cover sprays to foliage until it drips off.
Additional cover sprays (every 10 days as needed until Sept 1) Captan
or
Neem oil

Be sure to follow label directions.
