I have wild blackberries in my yard and they a very sour. How do I get them to be sweeter? |
Some wild berries are just naturally sweeter than others; it has to do with genetics. But, you may be harvesting them too soon. All blackberries can increase sweetness when left on the canes until the bitter end, when the berries change from a shiny to a dull color, and pull off very easily from the canes. Unfortunately, that is also when sweet eating ants, birds, and other creatures also find them most attractive. |
