We have 10 oleanders in bloom. They keep getting a bug on them - description: long, skinny black flying bug, 1/2 an inch long with an orange belly. It's back is black with orange on it. They appear to be eating the leaves. We spray them with malathion which eleminates them for approximately 2 weeks, and then new ones return. What are they? Are they harmful? How do we control them? |
Sheridan, I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up! I am not familiar with the bug you are describing. The remedy of spraying periodically is probably your best option. I suggest you take a sample if the insects to your County Extension Office and see if they can identify them and if necessary prescribe an appropriate remedy. Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon! |
