| Healthy plants are usually less attractive to insects and less likely to suffer disease problems. Modern IPM or Integrated Pest Management strategies are based on monitoring the plants to detect any issues early, identify the pest and decide if it is something that needs to be controlled or not, then use the least toxic method available to control it. In many cases this means minor pest damage can be tolerated as long as it is not threatening the life of the plant or ruining the crop. It is no longer recommended to do broad spectrum routine preventive spraying -- just keep an eye on your plants and deal with issues as they arise. I hope this helps. |
