I have a Japanese Maple (fine leaf weeping variety) that has developed cracks in some of the upper branches. What causes this ane can it be cured? Will the tree be ok or eventually die? |
Winter damage can cause cracks to develop during the growth period (spring and summer). Sunscald can produce the same kinds of cracks. It is simply the result of contraction and expansion during temperature extremes. There's nothing you need to do; the tree will heal over the wounds, and the cracks will add to the character of the maple. Best wishes with your landscape! |
