for the past 3 years i have had a dead or dieing patch of lawn in the same place. a half circle in shape. all the other lawn around it is healthy watering and fertalizer isnt helping. can you tell me what it is and how toget rid of it?

It sounds to me like a fungal infection. If mushrooms were appearing, it would be called fairy ring. Try a fungicide. If that doesn't work, you may need to dig the affected area and reseed. Fall is a good time to reseed, if the fungicide doesn't work.
