I asked a question regarding deadheading ballon flowers yesterday, and I received a terrific response - THANK YOU! I forgot to ask one other question regarding balloon flowers, however. When I purchased these perennials, they had the little plastic thing stuck in the dirt that said

Your balloon flower (Platycodon) will grow in average soil in either full sun or part shade. A sunny site produces the most flowers; a site with either morning or afternoon shade will produce lush growth, but fewer flowers. What's great about these plants is that they are so adaptable!
