We have low spots in our backyard and our dogs are making them bigger. Our problem is that water is constantly standing and we are losing the dirt around our foundation. Could you please advise on what to use to fill in these low spots and what we can do to further prevent future problems? We would like to have a normal backyard and have no water standing when we get a tiny rain storm. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you,

Marcia McManus

Marcia,

I apologize for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!

Dogs are a problem in landscapes. I think if it were my yard I would first bring in some soil to fill the low spots and then replant. Next I would lay chicken wire on the ground to create an impossible surface for them to dig in. You cold also cover this with mulch if you like.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
