The previous owner of my property planted English Ivy in our woods. It has spread like wildfire, and has created large drifts which choke out the native plants. Way too much to uproot by hand...is there any herbicide which works well on it?

You may be able to control it using a product containing glyphosate. This is a nonselective herbicide and will also kill desired plants so apply it with care. Hedera helix often requires more than one application to achieve full control, so be alert to retreating regrowth from the roots over the next year or so. Read and follow all of the label directions for best results.
