| We had a lawn man come in and mulch, fertilize, and seed for us and the lawn grew. Then came the gophers. They are gone but now we have patchy grass, weeds and bare spots. How do I get the lawn back to normal? I have grass seeds and mulch, and was thinking to put the grass seeds down and mulch a thin layer on top but with the heat coming soon, I'm not sure if its a good idea. |
| I think you're right - it's probably not a good idea to try and reseed your lawn when the weather is hot. For the time being you can water on a regular basis and even apply a weed killer, but wait until this fall to reseed your lawn. Lower temperatures and abundant rainfall will give your grass seeds a chance to sprout and grow. In September, rake out the dead grass and old, dead weeds. The broadcast the grass seed over the entire lawn, covering the bare spots with mulch to keep the seeds from drying out. Keep the area moist (water every day if needed) and the grass seeds should sprout in 7-10 days. They will grow and thicken up your lawn over the fall and winter months. By next spring you should have a healthy new lawn. Best wishes with your landscape. |
