| I have recently noticed mutated growth on the stems of a couple of Fantex Ash trees and also on an apple tree. The end of a branch becomes flattened and grows broad and fan shaped. Usually the flattened branch will also curl. What could be causing this strange growth? |
| What you've described sounds like 'fasciation'. It can be a genetic mutation, or it may be caused by a bacterial infection (Corynebacterium). The affected branches can be removed from the plant without problem. Many florists like to use theseabnormally flattened branches in their dried flower arrangements. |
