No grass - Knowledgebase Question

How can I get my yard to grow grass? There was no grass there when I moved there and a tree has been removed leaving lots of root systems behind above the surface,also the soil looks as though it is very compacted. Please help any information would e a God send, thanks.

Joyce,

Your site has some challenges. You might want to start with bringing in some soil to level the area and cover those roots. They should decay away in time. Check the soil by having it tested. When the results are in you can add the needed amendments and rototill them into the soil surface. Then lay the new sod, roll the area with a turf roller to establish good sod/soil contact and water it in well. Keep it moist for a couple of weeks until the sod can begin to get some roots down into the soil.
