The Q&A Archives: pinching

Question: how far back doyou have to pinch petunias? or do you just pull off the flower?

Answer: Remove each flower after it fades. Take off the petals and also the bulge at the bottom of the flower -- that is where the seeds would form. You can snap them off with your finger or use a scissors or hand pruner to do the job. If the plant eventually gets leggy, you can cut back the overall plant to renew it. Make sure to water and fertilize generously all season to keep it growing vigorously. Petunias should bloom all fall until frost. Enjoy!
