I am a horticulturist who has recently moved from Washington State to a home 20 miles out on the prarie of Wyoming. I am having a hard time with the wind, and lack of wind breaks. Everything I have planted has a hard time with the heat and wind. I have tried planting 6-8 foot tall tree's for a wind break, but they soon die. I keep them watered but the wind takes a toll. HELP!!

It sounds as though you have a real challenge on your hands! I'd recommend contacting the University of Wyoming for some of their excellent publications. Knowing what will and will not grow in your new home state will help you make educated selections of plant materials. Here's their web address:

Best wishes with your new landscape!
