| I WAS ON THIS SITE BEFORE AND FOUND A TREE CALLED CRYPTOMERIA JAPONICA WHICH I CANNOT FIND NOW. I AM LOOKING FOR TREES THAT ARE FAST GROWING, LARGE , AND INEXPENSIVE TO PLANT ALONG THE SIDE OF A FENCE FOR PRIVACY. ANY SUGGESTIONS? |
| The best plant to use depends on several factors. Most evergreens are naturally slow growers, so if you truly want something fast you may want to consider using deciduous plants instead. Among the evergreens, you could consider some of the columnar arborvitaes. These tend to be relatively fast growers (compared to other evergreens) and do well in a sunny location. If your planting area is somewhat shaded, you could try the so-called blue or Meserve hollies, or possibly the Catawba rhododendrons. In deep shade, you could consider covering the fence with English ivy. Your local professionally trained nurseryman and/or Cornell county extension may have other suggestions based on a more detailed understanding of the growing conditions where you want to plant and your overall design goals.
