When I was in Europe I saw a lot of homes with Ivy or other plants growing over the home. Will it hurt my house if I do that too? Pull up shingles or crack walls? Is it true that a green roof will keep your house cooler in the summer?

Sarah,

Yes greenroofs can help reduce temperatures in the attic or home. Ivy will not harm a brick or rock wall but will damage wood siding. It does take some care and trimming around windows and the roof line to keep it neat looking.
