Pine trees aren't a problem with grass, but the shade beneath the tree's canopy is! There are no grass varieties that tolerate shade in the low desert. St. Augustine will take some shade, but not full shade. So, you'd need to plant grass away from the shaded area beneath your tree, depending on how big an area that is. Good luck!
