You could consider the ornamental plum trees with red foliage such as "Newport" or "Crimson Pointe" or you could look at the smaller growing purple leaf sand cherry ( Prunus x. cistena), or possibly the purple leafed smoke bush (Cotinus coggygria) for red or purple foliage all summer. For superb red fall color, consider the large growing red maples (Acer rubrum), the mid sized ornamental pears (Pyrus calleryana) or mountain ash (Sorbus hupehensis). With the plums and pears, look for disease resistant varieties. I hope this gives you some ideas.
