my tomatoes have splitting on the stem top. What is the cause of this and how can I resolve it?

Some varieties are more prone to cracking than others, so it may be related to the variety you are growing. (Look for "crack resistant" in the description.) Cracking is usually caused by uneven soil moisture levels, so try to keep the soil evenly moist all the time. Pruning the plant can also lead to cracking so you might skip or cut back on the pruning and see if it helps.
