My husband and I recently move to Central Oregon. Apparently this is a pretty tough climate to grow in. We purchased several shrubs and planted them around our 1 acre property. I want these plants to get big, do I need to cut them back before winter or just leave them alone? Everything we have has proven to grow well in this climate. |
Pruning encourages new growth so fall or winter pruning is not recommended. Instead, wait until new growth begins in spring and do your pruning then. Or if the shrubs flower in spring, wait until they have finished flowering and prune them immediately afterward. Summer and fall flowering shrubs produce flowers on new growth so pruning them in early spring is just fine. Best wishes with your new landscape! |
