The Q&A Archives: Proper feeding technique

Question: I've heard from a number of people that I should water the plants before feeding them. This

Answer: It's not a good idea to feed a plant that is thirsty (fertilizer uptake will be concentrated and can actually harm the plant). So if the soil is quite dry, water the plant before feeding. If the soil moisture content is within a normal range, you can feed your plant as you water it. There's no specific waiting period after watering and before feeding. The main goal is to have a well-hydrated plant before you apply fertilizer to prevent burning.
