The Q&A Archives: Lawns in high desert area

Question: How much watering does bermuda and rye grass require to keep it green in my area (high desert)?

Answer: Your bermuda grass will remain green all summer, but the rye grass will go dormant in the heat. Then, when temperatures cool down, the bermuda will go dormant but the ryegrass will turn green. You have a perfect combination of grasses for a green lawn all year around. Water deeply twice a week (about an inch of water) to maintain your turf; once a week in the cooler months of the year.
