The Q&A Archives: Hydrangea blooms

Question: Where exactly should I cut off the blooms to promote good growth for next year?

Answer: Claudia,

When a hydrangea bloom is done you can prune it off back to just above the first set of large leaves below the bloom on the shoot. Go ahead and complete the bloom trimming by about the first of August.
