Gerberas are cool season plants that are often raised in a greenhouse for early summer sales and display as potted plants. They do not tolerate summer heat and humidity, so are fairly difficult to grow in the garden. As a houseplant, they tend to suffer from lack of sunlight and overly warm household temperatures and so do not do well there, either. I wish I could be more encouraging.
