Its my first year in my house and planting a vegetable garden. I noticed that my cucumbers are starting to grow in along the ground. Do I let them just continue to grow on the ground? I also have string beans that seem to grow and attach to the fence. Is there a better way to control how the string beand grow? Lastly, my green pepers are starting to bud. Do I need to get a cage for them as they start to get heavy so they dont fall over? |
Let the cucumbers continue to vine. You can direct the new growth in whichever direction is most convenient. Using a mulch in the garden will help keep the cucumbers clean. Runner beans or pole beans need something to climb on, typically a trellis or set of teepee style bean poles would be provided to support them. If you have a handy fence, that is fine. (If you prefer shorter plants, grow bush beans instead next time.) Unlike tomatoes, green pepper plants are usually quite sturdy and should be self supporting. Enjoy your veggies! |
