i, and a neighbor, have oleanders in our flower gardens. we have noticed orange and black caterpillars on these plants. they will devour the leaves and new growth including the new buds trying to come out. can you tell me if these can be controlled. we've tried dawn dishsoap and water and also a water and murphy's oil soap mixture on them but they keep coming back. thank you for any help you can give us.

Betty,

I suggest you try spraying the foliage with a product containing B.t. which is a safe, biological caterpillar control. Product names include Dipel, Thuricide, Bio-Worm Killer, and a number of others. You may need to reapply weekly for 2 or 3 times as the product doesn't last very long.
