| I purchaed several potted hibiscus plants to place around my pool. However they are not doing well. The buds are drying and falling off etc so consequently are not flowering. Any suggestions as to how I may deal with this problem? |
| New plants will go through an adjustment period when they are moved. The tropical hibiscus need full sun and evenly moist soil during the summer when they are growing vigorously. Lack of water (and also overwatering) can cause them to suffer. Use your finger to check the soil and water thoroughly when the top half inch to inch is dry. Do not allow them to wilt due to lack of water. On hot days you may need to water twice a day. They should also be fertilized regularly with a slow release granular fertilizer or water soluble fertilizer such as 10-10-10 plus minors. Read and follow the label directions for how much to use. If the plants are very crowded in their containers they may need to be repotted into larger pots using a good quality soil-less potting mix formulated for container plants. Finally, remove faded flowers to encourage rebloom. Also remove any discolored foliage promptly. I hope this helps you trouble shoot. |
