The Q&A Archives: Rock Salt

Question: will rock salt kill unwanted vegetation?

Answer: Rock salt can kill vegetation, but it will also create excess salinity in the soil which could affect other plants quite a distance away as it travels through the soil. If you want to kill weedy vegetation, you can pour boiling water or even hot vinegar on the plants. Neither will harm plants that it does not touch.
