I planted tomatoes this year for the first time. I have experience the blossom bottom rot and horrificly ugly bugs that are eating my tomatoes. These bugs fly at me when I try to pick the tomatoes. Any suggestions as to how to deal with these critters?

Rita,

I am not able to identify those bugs based on that description alone but my best guess is that you are seeing some type of stink bug or leaf footed bug. They cause the pale discolored splotches on your tomato fruit. There are insecticide products at your local Home Depot that will kill those bugs however by this time of the season most tomato production is winding down. If you do try to spray them do so in the early morning hours while the bugs are still sluggish and less apt to fly away.
