The Q&A Archives: Tree Spacing

Question: What is the least distance from each other and from a building that I can plant Betula Nigra 'River Birch'?

Answer: This tree can mature to about sixty feet tall and forty feet wide with a spreading root system so I would say no closer than about thirty feet from the building. I would space the trees at least forty feet apart to allow them enough room to grow and mature without crowding.
