| Cool-season varieties like blue grasses, rye grasses and fescues generally grow best during cooler months in early spring and late summer, while warm-season varieties like buffalo grasses and Bermuda grasses usually grow best in midsummer. Since you want an inexpensive lawn, I'd recommend seeding a fescue and ryegrass mixture. This will give you a green lawn for you and your family without the expense of purchasing bermuda or buffalo grass sprigs or sod. It won't stay green in the summer months, but will be green from fall through spring, until temperatures get warm. |
