The Q&A Archives: boxwood bushes

Question: we just planted boxwoods in the front of our home. i know thwy get bushy and about 4-5 ft tall...i want to plant perennials in that same area in the front of the home...what would be a good plant

Answer: Boxwoods are shallow rooted so it is usually better not to plant right up next to them as the planting and periodic division processes for perennials would disturb and possibly damage the roots. If you want to have something to cover the bare soil and mulch, you could use an undemanding groundcover such as Vinca minor.
