Would it be okay if I fertilized tomatoes and fruiting banana plants with Organic Seaweed fertilizer 0-0-1? If not what would you recommend and how often? Thanks

General purpose fertilizers typically contain nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium (NPK) and the percentage of those nutrients contained in the package are represented by the three numbers you see on the package. Nitrogen promotes lush, green growth; phosphorous promotes flowering and strengthens stems; potassium helps grow strong roots and works in conjunction with the other two elements. When you want to promote flowering and fruiting, such as in your tomato plants, you'll want your fertilizer to contain some phosphorous; when you want to promote lush green growth, as in your banana plant, you'll want a fertilizer with some nitrogen in it. Unfortunately, the organic seaweed contains neither nitrogen nor phosphorous - but it does contain a trace amount of potassium. I would use the product as an organic soil amendment and use a different product as a fertilizer. You can get nitrogen from bat guano and phosporous from bone meal. Both are considered organic products. Apply in amounts and with the frequency recommended on the labels.
