The Q&A Archives: hydrangea

Question: How do you take cut flowers from hydrangea plants. Can they be put in an arrangement?

Answer: Hydrangeas can be put into arrangements or they can be dried. For fresh use, be sure the plant is well hydrated by watering the day before you take the flowers. Cut stems at least a foot long, strip off the leaves, and recut the stem under water. Submerge the stems in water for a few hours, then arrange in the vase. The water treatment helps them stay fresher longer.
