Is Helleborus orientalis (Lenten Rose) seed available for the small gardener? It was suggested to me as a shade groundcover. I can't afford the 1-year plant prices in the
quantity I would like.

I can only find plants available, not seeds. The plant can be propagated from seed, but most commonly available ones are hybrids, and therefore won't reproduce true to type. Also, it is quite a slow process to propagate from seed.

However, onecatalog says "After a couple of years, you will have a small flock of seedlings...", so if you can be patient, and order a smaller number, eventually you may have enough to fill in, if you don't mind that the seedling plants may not be exactly the same as the parent plants.

In your area, you'll want to provide some winter protection for the plants.
