Recently moved into our new home. We have a fig tree. How can you judge when the figs are ready to pick?

Robin,

Each fig variety is different but they should turn a little color such as bronze or purple and soften quite a bit. Taste one or two as they seem to be ripening to gauge what you variety looks like when ripe.
